Allama Iqbal International Airport
Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP) (formerly known as Lahore International Airport) constructed a new terminal building (which opened in 2003) to accommodate future projected air traffic to the region. The airport currently handles an average of 75–80 flights each day, but the number of flights increases during the Hajj season (the old terminal is now used to conduct flights to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrims during the Hajj) and the airport handles about 13.58 million passengers a year.
The completion of the new air terminal complex and its subsequent opening in March 2003 has now increased the capacity with the aim of accommodating up to 16.5 million passengers a year by 2015.
